Traditional Style Home Tour – A Vintage Society Co Design Project

As some of you may know, this past year I have started a new endeavour with an amazing partner in crime Brit from White Farmhouse! Together we began a dream business for both of us called Vintage Society Co. Our main goal is to bring you all of the things that we love…French antiques, apparel and we offer interior design services! You can head to @vintagesocietyco to see all that we offer and to shop our favourite items but I wanted to also share some of our finished design projects with all of you here on the blog! And really, who doesn’t love a great home tour! The home we are featuring here is a beautiful colonial style home chalk full of gorgeous traditional details! So please take a peek below at our Traditional Style Home Tour

This had to be one of the funnest projects we have had to date! Our client and his family live in a different country for part of the year and his wife and kids come home every year at the start of the New Year. He approached us at the beginning of November wanting us to be finished in time for Christmas so he could surprise his wife!

We FaceTimed with him one afternoon to get a good idea of exactly what he was wanting to achieve in the spaces he was looking at getting refreshed!

He wanted the living room, office, front entrance and dining room to get a refresh! After looking at the space, we came up with a plan to allow the space to complement the existing details that were part of the home.

This house has a very traditional feel to it with ceiling medallions and columns through out. We wanted to work with these elements instead of against them so this was something we kept in mind through out planning all the spaces.

We decided to change all of the lighting fixtures in all the rooms! Lighting can be one of the biggest elements to set the tone in a space so it was important we had fixtures that gave the right feel for the spaces.

The front entrance has a grand staircase in it. We removed the furniture that was in front of it to allow the staircase to be the feature in this space. We also changed out the front door rug and added a beautiful wall mount coat rack and bench for people to sit at and put on their shoes when they are coming or going. This was all this space needed!

The office was a bit trickier as it had multiple entries and we wanted it to feel welcoming from any direction that you entered the room. We achieved this by the addition of the round jute rug and we found this amazing clock which also kept consistency with the round shape! Even the fixture was planned with the round shape in mind. We added an armoire to store the computer printer and all other electronics which also cleans up the cords and other objects in the room plus it gave great storage for files, craft supplies and printer paper.

The living room space needed to have a new layout. The original layout was a bit closed off and had to many heavy pieces in one room. We simply placed the furniture in a more inviting layout and added the gorgeous coffee table! We also removed some of the white shelfs in the built in’s to fit some of the clients big achievements and showcase some of their beautiful collected items. We also purchased a bunch of black frames to give the shelves more consistency.

The dining room was our favourite finished room for sure! The client already had a few great pieces in this space, so it was a matter of getting everything to come together! We knew immediately what chandelier would fit this room perfectly however the client didn’t want it to look to fancy or formal in this space. They still wanted it to be a comfortable room to share with friends and family. We kept the other finishes very casual to offset the fancier fixture! The addition of the linen drapes also helped to soften the feel of this space.

Here is what he had to say about working with us:

I hired Deb MacDonald and Vintage Society to redo the interior design of the main floor of my home.  My family and I were travelling overseas for work and I wanted to surprise my wife with a great Christmas present.  I gave them full reign on making changes that included new furniture, light fixtures, photos, carpets, blinds, you name it.  I set a budget that I wanted and the ladies did an incredible job staying within it.  Needless to say, I had an extremely happy wife on Christmas morning. Thank you Vintage Society!

The client then surprised his wife on Christmas morning with a beautiful newly decorated home to come back to! We were so happy with how this space turned out and so were they! I hope you enjoyed our Traditional Style Home Tour, if you are building a new home, have a space you are wanting updated or just need another pair of eyes to give you some tips, please send us an email! We have preset packages for design or we can always set up a custom package to fit your budget! We would love to help you any way we can!
