Home Tour Series:
Can you give a brief introduction of yourself, your home and work?
Hello! My name is Bethany Sinks and I am a home decor influencer on Instagram. My handle name is Shiplapaddict because that is just what I am! I love shiplap BIG time!!! I have a custom home that is a modern farmhouse style home which includes lots and lots of shiplap! I've been a stay at home mom for over 26 years and my youngest just graduated high school. It’s hard to believe that I am now practically an empty nester. Being on Instagram has been a wonderful outlet for me as I can now share my love for home decor and I have the time to do it! I have 4 children (I guess they aren’t children anymore) and 2 grandchildren. Life is wonderful and my family is my whole world. I’ve been married for over 27 years to my sweetheart and he is so supportive of my journey on Instagram and my blog and all my many projects I am working on. It’s been so much doing what I love!
What year was your home built and do you have any details of the history or building process you would like to share?
My husband and I had our custom home built in 2017. We fell in love with the home when the builder had it already framed up. (It’s an unusual circumstance I know.) He was building it for himself but decided to put it on the market. We just so happened to have walked into at just the right time and bought the lot and signed the contract for him to remain our builder and to finish the home to our specifications. We did a few adjustments to the floor plan and knocked a few walls down. It was such a fun process to be able to pick everything out for our home and design each and every space. We moved in on Thanksgiving Day!
How do you define your decor style? What are your favourite types of decor?
I love all decor styles. My favorites are modern white farmhouse, modern bohemian, traditional and classy, to rustic and scandinavian style. I own 2 homes, one is the modern farmhouse and the other is a modern bohemian style. If I can imagine it, I can create it. I love a home that is comfortable, stylish, bright and airy, clean, and appealing to the eye.
What is your favourite thing about your home? Do you have a favourite room or furniture piece?
That’s a hard question to answer as I have many aspects of my home I absolutely love. I think one thing I absolutely love is my pantry door. I’m so proud of it because it was an old antique door I found off the classifieds and restored it and brought it back to life. I loved working on the project and seeing the end result. Other things I love in our home are the wood beams, the galvalume metal roof, the custom made barn doors (especially to our home gym), laundry room, the garage doors, custom floating shelves, our winding staircase from our top deck to our bottom patio, the outdoor double sided fireplace, our built in Christmas lights, and of course my shiplap cabinets in our basement kitchen. So as you can see it’s hard to pick one but my pantry door stood out in my mind the most haha!
Do you have any big future plans for your home? What is next for you or your home?
I don’t have any big future plans for this home but I have big future plans for our next home. We purchased 7 acres out in the country and will be designing and getting the plans ready for that home in the next year or so. Now that our youngest has graduated high school my husband and I can live and retire in the country. It has been a big dream of ours.
If you had one design or decor tip, what would it be?
I love to decorate with the word simple in mind. Don’t over crowd your spaces. Decorate thinking there is a place and purpose for each item. This gives your home a clean and classy look. Simplicity is key!
Do you have a business or social media tip you can give to all those who want to start a blog or home decor business?
I say go for it!!! Don’t be afraid to share your talents. Enjoy the journey and DO NOT put pressure on yourself. Learn and watch to see what other accounts are doing but don’t compare yourself to them. It’s not about the numbers but about the quality and authenticity of who you are and what you share. One more tip is to ENGAGE!!!! Engage with other accounts. Find your niche, find new friends and HAVE FUN!
