Red Rose Care & a Simple Valentine's Day Decor Tour

When my kids were young I used to decorate for all the seasons so much! I was forever changing out bins of decor and having so much fun with new and fresh ideas. I'm not sure if it is because my kiddos are getting older or that I am just so much busier than I used to be but I rarely change things the way I used to. This year though, I still wanted to have a few red rose's and a little bit of Love Day decor up to get everyone in the mood. Take a peek below at my Simple Valentine's Day Decor Home Tour and my tips on how to care for fresh cut flowers.

I love simple red rose's on Valentine's Day and I give each of my children one the morning of February 14th every single year to put in their rooms!

Nothing Say's Love more than a red rose

To me, nothing says LOVE more than roses. I have always loved them as they are such a traditional and simple flower. They smell amazing and when cared for correctly can last for so long with a beautiful bloom to them.

Red rose care

I'm asked all of the time how I can justify spending money on fresh flowers all the time. I think my answer would be that I care for them well, so they tend to last for a LONG time! I get my money's worth out of them. My favourite Auntie always told me that if you have fresh flowers in your home, no one will notice the mess! I live by these words and over time I have found some things that work better than others with all flowers. I love to have red rose's at Valentine's day and wanted to share with you my tips on how to make fresh roses last longer so that you can enjoy yours a bit longer as well.

  • Make sure you have a CLEAN vase and add warm water. Distilled water is always best as they will be no chance of debris in it.
  • Add SUGAR into the water. This acts like food for the flowers
  • Add white VINEGAR into the water and stir well. This acts like a disinfectant in the water keeping it clean and debris free.
  • REMOVE all lower leaves from flowers so there won't be any in the water.
  • Cut 1 to 2 inches off the stems at an ANGLE while they are under water.
  • Get your stem into the water as QUICKLY as possible! This will make sure the end of the flower stays open so it can absorb as much water as possible.

  • I hope you find these tips useful! Any of the above steps done independently will make roses last longer but when done in this combination you should be totally good to go!!

This year I decided to use my antique Belgium beer bottles to add a pop of colour to the space along with red and soft pink roses. You can grab these vintage bottles in the Vintage Society Shop!

I  love the beautiful look I achieve with it! The colour combination is striking and the flowers look gorgeous every time I walk past them! Even my son came home and told me he liked how it looked!!

My new dining room table is a much simpler, lighter and airier table than what I had in this space before. I love how it looks with a few simple green bottles and the antiques I have used on it. The artichokes are one of my daughters favourite foods, they complemented the green well in the space and the soft pink roses were a great touch as well!

In the kitchen I added a few red rose for that bold pop of color! All the decor is very simple but timeless and makes me happy when I am around it so that is what it is all about!

My daughter love's to make treats for each holiday! Check out this easy recipe for Valentine's Day chocolate dipped strawberries!
