HOW CAN instagram help your brand or business?
It's no secret that a large part of our business is INSTAGRAM! Now we are not here to tell you the latest tips and tricks to grow an Instagram account! Rather we want to tell you how Instagram has helped our brand and what it really means for our business!
So let's dive into all of those questions that you may be dying to ask your favorite feeds on Instagram.
While a few years ago we watched some Instagram accounts jump from 0 to 100000 in a few months, that is just not the reality anymore. To be honest the number is not as important as you may think either! Yes, it counts, but it's not everything! Having a community, big or small, that truly wants to follow you is though! Take a read below and we will walk you thru a few of the important elements that we try to focus on when using social media as a business tool!
HOW DOES Instagram really HELP us?
Instagram is an introduction
The first and maybe most important way Instagram helps a brand is it gives you an introduction to a CLIENT BASE! Instagram is a quick look for someone to see if you have something to offer them.
Whether it be a brand wanting to collaborate, a potential client or someone just looking for inspiration. Instagram connects us to potential clients, fellow creators, even to mentors and others who inspire us!
Gone are the days of designers carrying around carefully curated books of their best work. This leads us to the next way Instagram can help your business... This app is an easy and convenient way to showcase some of your best work!
When we meet with Interior Design Clients its a great way to show them what we are capable of! Instagram, when used properly, will give you the perfect platform to show your product or service. The best part is that Instagram is also current and updated almost daily! So no need to worry about making sure you have an updated portfolio book!
helpful advice for sharing on INSTAGRAM?
Now, this is a heavily debated topic in the Instagram community! Is sharing a "false reality" harmful or in essence false advertising.
We have a general guideline that we have for ourselves that we believe aligns with our brand... 1. we share our best "work" on our main Instagram feed 2. we share behind the scenes and day to day reality on our Instagram stories. (Stories is a feature on Instagram where the content disappears after 24 hours).
You will probably never see messy, un-styled areas of our homes on our feeds... this is a choice that we have made for our brand & business. Would you hire an interior designer if you went to their website and saw images of piles of laundry and dirty dishes?
Yes, laundry and dishes can pile up in our homes but why does someone who's looking to be inspired need to see that? While it can help to see that there is real life that occurs in these "seemingly perfect" homes this is where the story feature on Instagram has become beneficial.
set boundaries for yourself on what you are and are not comfortable sharing on social media and then stick to it!
Sharing "snapshots" of the not so glamorous parts of our lives helps people feel more connected. As society has become more digitized people are looking to make "real" connections through social media channels.
What we both want to do is to inspire others to live a life they love!
We want to help people see that you can have a clean and beautiful home because that is authentic for us! Having clean uncluttered homes makes us feel better and less chaotic in an already busy life!
Even our husbands and children have come to appreciate how having a clean home can make you feel! It makes our families feel more energized and productive and that is what we ultimately want to help you achieve!
Tips for Advertising with instagram
Instagram allows us to showcase the products from our Vintage Society Shop without someone having to go to our website to see what we offer for sale!
Social Media has become a large marketing platform for businesses large and small to promote their products and services. While some people are upset at the direction Instagram has taken and that it is becoming largely AD-based you can choose to look at it from the other perspective.
If you follow accounts that you truly love and trust would you not rather hear their review and recommendations than from just a generic commercial?
Some accounts and people will say anything for money, isn't that what TV and infomercials all are? On Instagram though, you can choose who you take advice from! Unlike the commercials on the television, you can choose to unfollow accounts you don't trust or don't align with.
We both have a strong view that we will only promote a product that we truly love and would actually buy ourselves. It is also cool to think about how many amazing products and ideas we have come to know of solely because of Instagram.
Instagram is a tool for your business
How does Instagram help us with our business? Well if you are here then you probably don't believe blogging is "dead" but there is a lot of chatter in the social media community that blogging is a lost art.
However, we believe that people are just being picky about what they choose to read and not read because there are so many options out there! So THANK YOU for choosing our blog...we love having you here!
Did you know that Instagram is the #1 way we get traffic to our blog?
Yes, Instagram is currently the largest way that you all find our blog! Is that how you ended up here today? We are not all out searching for different topics to read about every day. Instagram allows us to access a large group of people who are interested in what we have to say. This allows them to come to our blog when they see that we are discussing a topic that they are interested in.
Shhhh...yes we're saying it...Instagram can make you money
MONEY MONEY MONEY! Yes, we said it, but our husbands are not quitting their day jobs because Instagram can support our families...YET!
Yes, Instagram helps us make money! It's no secret that Instagram is increasingly becoming a marketing platform. You are probably seeing more and more influencers quitting their "corporate" day jobs. Honestly, how would you hear about half of the products you know about without social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest?
People are taking all of these ways Instagram can help them and maximizing their potential, sharing more and hustling! Don't think that influencer life is all glitz and glam...there is a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes. Just like any job, this is a career that we love and so the countless hours that go on behind the scenes are worth it!
You can read more about how we have made this our Dream Career in our previous post.
Are you tired of seeing Instagram Ads? Yes those ads that you can't control on your feed can be frustrating.... BUT sponsored and linked products that your favourite feeds are sharing are DIFFERENT! Why?? The products that you see on your favourite feeds are usually items that the individual truly uses and loves! Do you know how many times a day influencers are asked where they purchased the items they use are from?
It takes time... probably more time and energy than you may think to let everyone know where every item is from and to provide a source. So it has become this mutually beneficial arrangement between influencers and brands. Influencers can make commissions or flat fees from brands for promoting them!
The word we dread the most ... influencer
While we despise the word influencers...are we influencers??? Yes! Now that does not mean that we accept every offer that comes knocking on our doors? We do get multiple emails every day from brands asking to work with them but we choose to work with brands that we truly want to share with you all.
We just finished working with Rust-oleum Canada. For years we have both used Rust-oleum spray paint for tones of projects without receiving a dime in compensation. So when a brand like Rust-oleum reaches out about a product we actually use and love, then we are willing to accept payment for promotion.
Let it help you find a community
Our final Helpful Instagram tip is to let social media help you find YOUR community! We can genuinely say that we know some amazing people in the Home Decor community because of Instagram. This app lets us chat and connect with them daily. In fact, we met some of them in France and we can now say they are real-life friends! You can read the full details on our trip to France on our previous Blog Post!
As weird as it is to say, Instagram has communities that have naturally formed. Within our Home Decor community, we have found that many of the women (and a few men) are willing to share advice and support to encourage others. We have gotten advice for our Vintage Society Shop, for our blog, advice on products and lots of DIY tips!
Yes, there are negatives to Instagram...it can suck up valuable time in the numbness of scrolling through your feed! There are accounts and individuals out there who are just in it for the "fame" and to get "free stuff," but there are people like this in our everyday society too.
Everything is what you make and choose it to be. We like to set healthy balanced limits on ourselves when it comes to social media. Allow yourself to set time limits and don't engage with those that are leaving negative comments. We both delete negative comments on our feeds rather than commenting back.
Our best tip for using Instagram, is not to let it become a replacement for your real life! Let Instagram help you build a platform for your business, promote your services or just a place where you can come to be inspired!
We both truly appreciate you being here so please leave us a comment and then grab yourself a FREE Lightroom Preset below!
