Home Tour Series:
Can you give a brief introduction of yourself, your home and work?
Hello! I’m Adele, from @homechronicles on Instagram. Our home chronicles all started when we bought our first foreclosed home sight-unseen, it was a huge leap of faith. Working on that home stirred up a passion in me to take a house and turn it into a home. We have currently flipped a couple homes. Some more intense than others, but during each one my favourite part was decorating them! When you sell a house, you sell a dream. Through our home chronicles I have loved sharing our journey in hopes that it will inspire someone to make their house into a home! I also share small shops, tutorials on how to paint furniture, what to look for while antique or thrift shopping, and brands I love.
What year was your home built and do you have any details of the history or building process you would like to share?
We just sold our fifth home, it was a builder grade home built in 1999. I worked hard to give that home character and charm. In each room we painted the wall a bright white to really open up the spaces. We took down the upper cabinets in the kitchen and added open shelving, it gave the kitchen an updated look all while giving me somewhere to display my thrifted finds! We also added wallpaper or floral decals in the bedrooms to add a whimsical bright touch. One of the biggest things we did was rip down a half wall to open up the kitchen into the living room to create an open space. If you have a builder grade home, these might be some practical and affordable ways to upgrade your home.
How do you define your decor style? What are your favourite types of decor?
I love going antique shopping or finding a good piece of furniture at the thrift store and refinishing it with a french flair. So, I think I would call my style french farmhouse with an eclectic touch. I always love a good collection! I currently am loving antique blue ball jars with the original lids.
What is your favourite thing about your home? Do you have a favourite room or furniture piece?
My favourite thing about my home was the wall of windows it had, there is just nothing like waking up and seeing the morning sunshine flowing through your house. Speaking of windows, I definitely have to say that my favourite decor piece is the oversized antique window I found on the facebook marketplace, it is so fun to decorate for each season.
Do you have any big future plans for your home? What is next for you or your home?
We are currently looking for our next home and I am so excited to see what we find. I am praying for a home with natural character like trimmed out windows, wood floors, or a wooden staircase.
If you had one design or decor tip, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to decorate your home with items you love. Maybe they aren’t in “style” or maybe they aren’t what your best friend is decorating with, but it is your home and you should love it! I think everyone should walk into their home and feel blissfully home! So, decorate with the colour scheme you love and be all in! On the contrary, if you feel like you have decorated with something you don’t love please don’t be afraid to remove the item, and try something new. Trial and error is key when you are decorating a space.
Do you have a business or social media tip you can give to all those who want to start a blog or home decor business?
Be consistent in who you are! Styles change, homes change, but who you are will always shine through! If you are passionate about something and share it passionately you will find “your people” and they will support you!
