Holiday Party Ideas for 2020
Tis’ the season for holiday cheer, even in the hard times that we are all having. There are a few things you can do to stay in the festive spirit but still keep up with the social distancing protocols. Here are a few holiday party ideas that we are doing to keep things safe!!
Host a Virtual Event!
Ok... we know SO much of the world has now gone virtual with the presence of Covid 19, so let’s think outside of the box and come up with some fun family, friends or company activities that can be done over the internet! This is the way of the world so why not adapt, we are all having to this year!
Take an online workshop or class!
Taking a class or workshop is always so much fun as a group and so many companies have now figured out how to offer them online. Maybe your team does a yoga class together or perhaps you decide to do a virtual wreath-making class. Nowadays, so many supplies can be shipped right to your door so there is no reason you couldn’t take part in a fun activity like this.
Take part in a holiday treat or recipe exchange
People are cooking from home now more than ever and those go to’s might be getting a bit boring at this point of the game. Trading recipes with your co-workers, friends or family may be just what you need to spice things up.
A cookie or holiday treat recipe exchange would be fun too! This is an enjoyable tradition that Deb does every year with her friends. There is nothing more fun than trying a fun, tried and true recipe. Try our favourite gingerbread mug hugger recipe or even our salted chocolate & almond toffee! Both are SO yummy and easy to make!
Have a virtual coffee date.
Sometimes, friends/family and or co-workers are on different schedules so an evening event does work for them. Set up an online coffee date or wine in the afternoon. I love a fresh glass of white wine like the Gray Monk Gewürztraminer or Chardonnay.
Set up a Secret Santa event.
This is a fun one to do with your friends, family or co-workers. It’s very easy to do or plan. Here are the steps to hosting a secret Santa gift exchange.
#1. Write down each name on a piece of paper.
#2. Decide a dollar amount you want to spend on your gifts. This can also be done with a theme like coffees or wine which would be really fun too!! Gray Monk Winery will deliver to anywhere in Canada, which makes your life easy!
#3. Draw names to randomly assign a secret Santa to each player
#4. Mail out the gifts to each other or do a front door drop off if you live locally and close enough.
#5. Organize a FaceTime or zoom call where you can all guess who gave each other gifts.
This is a great way to have some fun but not be together!!
Stream a holiday movie together.
The kids will love to take part in this one. Pick your favourite holiday show, schedule a time and enjoy your favourite holiday movie together!
Virtual cookie decorating or painting party.
Gathering as a group to take on a Pinterest project is ALWAYS a good time. Set up a zoom call and send out a list of the supplies necessary for all to take part! Some projects will turn out perfectly, others will end up being a Pinterest fail, but no matter the outcome it will be more fun than trying to do it on your own.
Organize a virtual wine tasting.
This one will be fun for all that are involved!!
#1. Write a list of the guests you would like to take part in.
#2. Select wines you would like to use for the tasting. I highly recommend Grey Monk as it is our favourite! Gray Monk would also make it easy for you to host as they ship for free anywhere within Canada. For more details here is the link.
Here is a recommended tasty schedule using Gray Monk wines! Have a little fun and see if everyone can guess the flavours of each one!
If you do decide to do a gathered event, make sure you do it safely and follow all the proper provincial protocols. Arranging an outdoor gathering may be a better option as it will give ample space for everyone to distance.
Enjoy an outdoor walk with your friends or family looking at Christmas lights.
Organize an outdoor fire with s’mores and hot chocolate. Maybe even a glass of the Gray Monk Merlot.
Host a wreath making event. This can be done safely as you need a great deal of working space for each guest! Just make sure everyone is wearing a mask!
Set up a safe wine tasting party. Use all the same material as the virtual wine tasting, just host it in person! Again, make sure you are doing so safely with the proper provincial protocols in place!
There are plenty of options out there that are fun and most of all SAFE! No matter what you decide, try and make the best of the situation that we are ALL in together. It may look a little different this year but your team and family will appreciate a thoughtful toast and cheers to the new year ahead. These will be memories we can look back on someday and remember together.
