Happy Happy Nester
Can you give a brief introduction of yourself, your home and work?
Hello! I’m Janine, the owner of Happy Happy Nester, which is a lifestyle blog and business. I live in the rolling hills nestled between San Francisco and Napa. I draw on this casual and sunny California lifestyle throughout my business.
Happy Happy Nester combines home decor, crafts, and cooking. You see, I enjoy every aspect of our home, and I try to inspire others through my blog and a private, Nester’s Circle community.
What year was your home built and do you have any details of the history or building process you would like to share?
Our California Ranch Style home was built in 1972. We remodeled it about five years ago and took most of our house down to the studs. I loved every aspect of construction, from the planning to picking out our appliances. We removed walls and repainted all the existing woodwork and much more. And now our home is light and bright and such a positive space.
How do you define your decor style? What are your favourite types of decor?
My style of decorating is a bit eclectic. I gravitate towards light decor with a twist of feminine and color. If I won the lottery and could fill my house with any brand of furniture, it would be Serena and Lily.
What is your favourite thing about your home? Do you have a favourite room or furniture piece?
I love everything about our home, and it is difficult to choose just one thing. I guess I especially love that in the spring and through the fall, our home triples in space. This happens since we have four big sliding glass doors that open up to our patio and garden. And during our beautiful warm weather, we practically live outdoors. We eat every meal outside, and we entertain guests with our pool, ping pong table, badminton court, and fire pit.
Do you have any big future plans for your home? What is next for you or your home?
We have always wanted to redo our patio flooring. Right now, it is a worn old salmon-colored terra cotta tile, and someday we would love to replace it with light outdoor travertine. And since we are talking about future projects, we would like to add a simple outdoor kitchen and fireplace.
If you had one design or decor tip, what would it be?
When I decorate a space or anything like a table or bookcases, I will clear out all the decor. I like to start with a blank canvas. I just add and test how things look and I’m not afraid to try anything. Gather all your decor from your home and have fun decorating.
Do you have a business or social media tip you can give to all those who want to start a blog or home decor business?
I’m a very patient person, and my blogging has been a long journey. Never during my many years of blogging, did I ever question giving up inspiring others. Recently, I started a membership community of women who share the same passions as me, and they keep me motivated and inspired. My tip is to never give up on your dreams.
