Can you give a brief introduction of yourself, your home and work?

Hello! I’m Cindi from @themustardseed205 and I love to garden, design and decorate, sew and DIY! I currently work as an influencer and a Norwex consultant. I am passionate about both!

What year was your home built and do you have any details of the history or building process you would like to share?

Our home was built in 1903!  My husband and I have been working on it for almost 40 years. We have saved as much of its charm as possible including a handmade spiral staircase but much of the home was unsavable and replaced over the years. When we bought our house, there was no hot water in the kitchen..(think putting on a kettle before every meal) so that was one of the first tasks. Also there was no electricity in the upstairs bedrooms and no insulation anywhere. The closets were full of the previous owners late husband’s things!

New wiring and insulation were priorities and virtually no show items.. But it had to be done! We raised three daughters here and continue to raise two grandsons. It’s truly a multigenerational home for our family! The owners before us raised a family and lived in it for 58 years. It is surely a home of longevity. If only walls could talk... I’d love to hear the stories our home could tell.

How do you define your decor style? What are your favourite types of decor?

My decor style is surely eccentric and eclectic because I love many styles from vintage farmhouse cottage to hygge simplistic. I try to integrate things from all my style loves and pull it all together for a cozy lived in simple look.

What is your favourite thing about your home? Do you have a favourite room or furniture piece?

I particularly love our main living area..open to the kitchen. We added this large room in 2001 with as much of an open concept as possible in a turn of the century home and added a rock fireplace built by a local craftsman using rock from our area streams and bluffs. We carried the same rock to our front porch, wrapping old disintegrating cement piers with the same rock after having it tumbled.

Interesting note: In 1903 and the years ahead, the home's front was the back where they pulled up the wagon and entered into the back of the house. The kitchen was in a tiny half basement that walked out the front (now the back) making it a grand three story farmhouse. At that time it was the only home on the hill with a narrow dirt road leading up the hill and behind it. Today it is part of a neighborhood in our small town.

Do you have any big future plans for your home? What is next for you or your home?

No big future plans as we near retirement..just live and enjoy decorating and redecorating! We added a screened porch last year and that was our last planned large project!

If you had one design or decor tip, what would it be?

Be true to yourself! You don’t have to follow every trend if it doesn’t fit. Your home is just that..yours. Make it the best for your family and you will be happier!

Do you have a business or social media tip you can give to all those who want to start a blog or home decor business?

Once again..be true to yourself..your style, your ideas and your dreams! Take your time to build a great audience who love YOU! Let them see who you really are..which is probably pretty amazing!
